Out of print, reissued as part of the Cask Strength Black Metal box set. 3" CD-R released by Battlecruiser. Harsh, noisy covers of songs by Townes Van Zandt, Leonard Cohen and Garnet Rogers. Here's the label's description:
"The grimmest species of forest-folk-blackness goes hunting for edible scraps in the charred remains of burnt churches. A deafening, all acoustic abomination. Traditional folk songs butchered like a virgin sacrifice under completely brain-scraping production values, leaving only shredded flaps of song-flesh and sun-bleached bones for the ravens to peck at. Inverted crosses, bullet belts, and banjos. No thank you ma'm!"

If in fact you are unfamiliar with DRC, the now defunct project teeters precariously between the realms of harsh black metal/noise and broken jandek-esque folk music.The themes vary, mostly interpretations of classic poetry with a sparse and experimental folkish accompaniment.The releases with wolves in the title lean towards the quiet sparse folk element, while the other titles tend to be harsh noisey black metal with some merzbow-esque static sonic walls.This is in fact one of those harsh releases, all unlikely covers of leonard cohen, townes van zandt, and garnet rogers.Claiming that all acoustic instruments, and no electric or electronics , were used in it's recording, Smolken has managed to manipulate a varied and atmospheric conglomeration of hideous black feelings and caustic noise. All songs stand on their own as memorable, but be warned this is hideous music for the very adventurous.Worth it if you can find it.

Akoestische Americana-covers en toch black metal grimmiger dan Darkthrone.
"No electric or electronic instruments were used in these recordings" vermeldt het, zo te zien met een inkjetprinter gemaakte, hoesje van Sturmfuckinglieder, een EP gevuld met covers van Leonard Cohen, Garnet Rogers en Townes van Zandt.
Wat een plaat met akoestische americanacovers in de sectie Loud doet? Simpel: Sturmfuckinglieder begint waar Darkthrones Transsilvanian Hunger ophoudt. Wat Dead Raven Choir-dirigent Mad Gravedigger Smolken hier presenteert is onovertroffen ijzige zwartheid, verpakt in een productie die het begrip 'grim' herdefinieert.
Neem nou de behandeling van Leonards Cohens 'First We Take Manhattan', na een kort intro met een lange titel het eerste echte nummer op Sturmfuckinglieder: van onder een dikke laag ruis spuugt Smolken met een dik Pools accent de openingsregels "They sentenced me to twenty years of boredom for trying to change the system from within / I'm coming now, I'm coming to reward them / First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin" uit met een haat die Bin Laden hem niet zo nadoen.
Met 'Stormfront' bewijst Smolken vervolgens dat hij zelfs a capella duisterder en enger kan klinken dan menige Noorse genretopper. De drie Van Zandt-covers die Sturmfuckinglieder afsluiten laten een meer melancholische kant van Dead Raven Choir horen. De klankkleur van de gebruikte instrumenten schemert zelfs een beetje onder de distortion vandaan. 'Highway Kind' is het meest desolaat en bewijst dat het mogelijk is een brug te slaan tussen Will Oldhams meesterwerk 'I See a Darkness' en black metal.
Het spreekt vanzelf dat dit soort platen niet in grote stapels bij de lokale Free Record Shop ligt. Veel platen van Dead Raven Choir zijn zelfs nauwelijks te krijgen. Sturmfuckinglieder is als handgeknutselde cd-r te bestellen via het in experimentele doom gespecialiseerde Aurora Borealis (www.aurora-b.com).
